The Super League

Super League is a professional rugby league in Europe, with top teams competing for the championship title. There are a total of fourteen teams competing in the competition, 12 of them are from England while the remaining two are from Wales and France respectively. Although this competition was first intended to be a European rugby competition, French team Paris Saint Germain is the only team outside the UK competing in the competition.

If you love the Super League, you will certainly be familiar with St Helens, Leeds and Bradford. These three teams are dominating the Super League since it was started in 1996. At the end of each season, the winner gets to play the winner of Australasian National Rugby League. The meeting is called World Club Challenge and is often considered the most prestigious meeting in the world of rugby leagues.

The latest winner of the 2009 Super League is the Leeds Rhinos. They won the Super League Grand Final against St Helens with a final score of 18 – 10. The same teams played the 2008 and 2007 Super League Grand Final with a final score of 24–16 and 33–6, however, St Helens were the league leader in 2007 and 2008 while Leeds Rhinos led the league in 2009.

The League Leader’s Shield is a trophy given to the team leading the league, while the team that wins the Super League Grand Final takes home the Super League trophy. The best player of the season is awarded with the Man of Steel Award.
