It is the most prestigious championship in the world of golf, with top professional golfers from all around the world competing for the ultimate title. What most golf fans don’t know is the fact that there are several different PGA Tour event categories; that is what we are going to discuss in this article.

PGA Tour Majors are the main set of events in this competition. The four top competitions, which are the the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, The (British) Open Championship, and the PGA Championship, are classified as Majors and each receive 100 OWGR points automatically.

Next, we have the World Golf Championships or WGC. WGC is a set of events co-sanctioned by the International Federation of PGA Tours. It is a golf tour designed to attract top golfers from all around the world including those who are not members of the PGA. A lot of amateur golfers use the WGC as a good starting point to join the official PGA Tour.

There are two tournaments that are rated as Unique. The first one is of course the SBS Championship, the first tournament of the season. The other golf tournament rated as Unique is the The Players Championship. This competition attracts the best professional golfers from all round the world and is given 80 OWGR points.

Aside from the event categories we’ve discussed earlier, there are also events categorized as Invitational including the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Verizon Heritage, the Memorial Tournament and the AT&T National.

Mark Webber http://www.sportssaga.com/mark-webber/ http://www.sportssaga.com/mark-webber/#comments Sat, 02 Oct 2010 16:23:25 +0000 admin http://www.sportssaga.com/?p=11 With the Red Bull Racing being a strong team in the current Formula 1 season, Mark Webber is certainly looking at a strong chance of winning the season as well. With Vettel as his teammate, the Australian driver will certainly maximize the opportunity and try to take the title. Webber has always been an exceptional driver nonetheless.

Born August 27th, 1976, Webber started racing in the Formula 1 in the 2002 Australian Grand Prix. Unfortunately, he had to wait no less than 130 races before he finally won his first Grand Prix in 2009; Webber won his first Formula 1 trophy in the 2009 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. He was already with Red Bull Racing at the time.

As he continues his career in the Formula 1, Webber scored more victories and built a prominent career. The 2009 Formula 1 season ended with Webber in 4th place; he scored 8 podiums and 2 first-place finishes during the season. His points was 69.5 that particular season.

Aside from racing in the Formula 1, Webber also joined the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He drove for AMG-Mercedes in the 1998 and 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans, putting his skills as driver to the test. He then joined the European Arrows, a team competing in the International Formula 3000 in 2000 before transferring to Super Nova Racing the following year. It was in 2002 that he was brought to Formula 1 and raced as the driver of KL Minardi Asiatech in the competition.

Premier League Trivia http://www.sportssaga.com/premier-league-trivia/ http://www.sportssaga.com/premier-league-trivia/#comments Sun, 26 Sep 2010 16:24:18 +0000 admin http://www.sportssaga.com/?p=15 As one of the leading football leagues in the world, the Premier League has a long and superbly interesting history to look into. Formed in the 1992, the Premier League is now the most popular football league in the world and arguably the most successful one financially. In this article, we are going to talk about some interesting facts in the history of this amazing football league.

Although the Premier League is formed to be England’s top football league, there hasn’t been any English manager who won the Premier League to date. Sir Alex Ferguson that collected 11 victories so far and Kenny Dalglish who won the Premier League once are both Scots. Arsenal’s coach Arsène Wenger is a Frenchman, while Carlo Ancelotti is Italian and José Mourinho is Portuguese.

David James is still holding the record for most Premier League appearances with a total of 573 appearances, followed by Ryan Giggs with 553 appearance and Gary Speed with 535 appearances. Out of the three names, Ryan Giggs is the only player who still plays in the Premier League. David James also holds the Premier League record for most clean sheets, with 173 ‘clean’ appearances.

Manchester United breaks the record for the highest bid accepted for player transfer. The bid came from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, valued at £80 million. The largest player transfer ever paid by a Premier League team was made on September 1st, 2008, when Manchester City acquired Robinho from Real Madrid for £32.5 million.

Formula 1: More Drivers Records http://www.sportssaga.com/formula-1-more-drivers-records/ http://www.sportssaga.com/formula-1-more-drivers-records/#comments Sun, 26 Sep 2010 16:23:18 +0000 admin http://www.sportssaga.com/?p=9 We’ve talked about a lot of Formula 1 drivers records before, yet there are still so many interesting things to uncover from the long history of Formula 1. In this second part, we are going to take a look at more interesting facts about Formula 1 drivers. Let’s have a look!

We already know that Michael Schumacher is holding the record for most victories in Formula 1. He is way ahead of his competitions; the closest driver is Alain Prost with 51 victories. However, Michael Schumacher is only third when it comes to percentage of victories compared to the number of appearances. The person holding that record is Juan Manuel Fangio who won 24 out of 52 races.

Both Alberto Ascari and Michael Schumacher are holding the record for most consecutive wins with 7 wins each. Ascari did it in the 1952–53 season while Schumacher accomplish it in the 2004 season. Also in 2004, Schumacher matched Nigel Mansell’s record for most consecutive wins from the first race of the season with 5 wins.

Lewis Hamilton along with Jacques Villeneuve are holding the record for most wins in their first Formula 1 season. Villeneuve won 4 races in his first Formula 1 season in 1997 while Hamilton won 4 races in his debut year in 2007. However, Hamilton was not the youngest driver to win a Formula 1 race even though he was only 22 years and 154 days when he won the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix; the youngest winner is Sebastian Vettel who won the 2008 Italian Grand Prix at the age of 21 years and 73 days.

Formula 1: Drivers Records http://www.sportssaga.com/formula-1-drivers-records/ http://www.sportssaga.com/formula-1-drivers-records/#comments Mon, 23 Aug 2010 16:22:48 +0000 admin http://www.sportssaga.com/?p=7 The Formula 1 is always interesting to follow, with top teams and drivers competing for the drivers and constructors championships. There are some interesting records in the history of Formula 1, but in this part we are going to take a look at some of the drivers’ records and great accomplishments.

A driver is considered to have entered the race if they attempt to compete in at least one official practice session with the intent of entering the race. In terms of number of entries, the driver holding the most entries is of course Rubens Barrichello with a total of 302 entries. Michael Schumacher is in second place with 264 entries, while Riccardo Patrese is third with 257. Both Barrichello and Schumacher are still racing so it is certainly possible to see them improve their records.

The youngest driver to start so far in the Formula 1 history is Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari. He drove for the first time for Scuderia Toro Rosso in the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix at the age of 19 years and 125 days. Louis Chiron, on the other hand, is noted as the oldest driver to start a race. He started in the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix at the age of 55 years and 292 days.

Despite of his recent not-so-successful comeback, Michael Schumacher is still holding the record for most victories. Out of 264 entries, he won 91 races throughout his career in the 1991-2006 period. He has yet to win a race this season, but of course things can still improve for the Formula 1 legend.
