Formed in the 1992, the Premier League is now the most popular football league in the world and arguably the most successful one financially. In this article, we are going to talk about some interesting facts in the history of this amazing football league.

Although the Premier League is formed to be England’s top football league, there hasn’t been any English manager who won the Premier League to date. Sir Alex Ferguson that collected 11 victories so far and Kenny Dalglish who won the Premier League once are both Scots. Arsenal’s coach Arsène Wenger is a Frenchman, while Carlo Ancelotti is Italian and José Mourinho is Portuguese.

David James is still holding the record for most Premier League appearances with a total of 573 appearances, followed by Ryan Giggs with 553 appearance and Gary Speed with 535 appearances. Out of the three names, Ryan Giggs is the only player who still plays in the Premier League. David James also holds the Premier League record for most clean sheets, with 173 ‘clean’ appearances.

Manchester United breaks the record for the highest bid accepted for player transfer. The bid came from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, valued at £80 million. The largest player transfer ever paid by a Premier League team was made on September 1st, 2008, when Manchester City acquired Robinho from Real Madrid for £32.5 million.
